Influencer Spotlight on Model Me Fit's Alex Finch

Written by: Abi Titterington-Lough

Influencer Alex Finch is a qualified personal trainer with a successful fitness blog and modelling career. Fashion and Beauty Monitor caught up with the Londoner to find out more about how she got into blogging in the first place and learn a bit more about her.

Why did you start Model Me Fit?

It actually started out as a personal training company. I had my daughter (who is now 4) and spent a lot of time getting back into shape for work. I wanted to be able to help new mums feel their best again so I was training clients privately in and around London. After a while I wasn't able to keep up with clients as well as modelling work, so I decided to turn it into a blog to reach more people.

How has the influencer community changed in the last few years and what are your predictions for the future?

I love how tight-knit influencers have become, cheering each other on and generally being excited at seeing each other do well. I think brands and companies are finding it more important to include influencers in their product launches as they can see how influential they are. My prediction (and hope) for the future would be that influencers continue to grow and are able to build strong brands in their own right.

You’re also a mother! How do you schedule your days and do you have any rituals or routines?

Being a mum to a very hyper 4 year old is pretty manic but luckily her dad is amazing and helps out loads. We both have pretty full on schedules so planning ahead is a must! My main ritual is to wake up early before the rest of the house wakes up and to have a coffee in silence, this helps once the mayhem starts.

Have your priorities changed at all since having a child?

I'm a lot more selective on the jobs I take on since becoming a mum, I want to spend as much time as possible with her whilst also fulfilling my career plans. I take each day as it comes and don't put too much pressure on myself to be in ten places at once.

Who takes the majority of your photos? Any tips on getting the best photo?

My images are usually taken by anyone who's there (not strangers, I draw the line at that haha). My fiancé takes a lot of the pictures which took some practice - and a lot of me telling him off for getting the wrong angle! - but he's pretty good at it now. My best friends are also pretty good on social media and are models too so they always capture a good pic. I also try to shoot a couple of times a month with a professional photographer to get some street style images for my blog. I'd say the best tip is to practice, the easier you feel in front of the camera, the better the images. Spend some time at the mirror, learning your best angle (as crazy as that sounds).

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

That's a tough one. I'd say being half-American usually intrigues people. I'm also petrified of cotton wool so that's usually a conversation starter.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

It's not advice as such but more of a quote that I live by, "what's meant for you will not pass you". This always makes me feel better if I have tough decisions to make. I wanted to get this as a tattoo but it wouldn't be great for modelling so I'll stick with it being my fave quote instead.

Best and worst things about being an influencer?

I'd say the best thing is being able to connect with so many people. I love helping people whether that's with modelling or training. The worst thing is having to be stuck to your phone all day and not being able to switch off, I once typed out a blog post whilst at breakfast with friends because I had a deadline. They didn't look pleased haha!

Anything still on your bucket list?

I've always had a plan to eventually move to somewhere super hot and open a coconut shack and live a really minimal life. Once I've done that I'll feel like I've made it!

When are you most productive?

Around 3am- my fiancé wants to kill me in the middle of the night when I'm wide awake and screenshotting ideas for shoots and typing out draft blog posts.

Indoor or outdoor exercise?

Outdoor if it's hot definitely. There's nothing better than going for a run on the beach early in the morning on holiday. Indoor if it's typical English weather and raining.

Introvert or extrovert?

It usually depends on my mood. Sometimes I love being the life and soul of the party and other times I'll shut myself off and read a book.

Biggest learning curve?

As cliche as it sounds, becoming a mum. Having to put someone's else's needs before your own really puts things into perspective.

This year, I am going to…… work and travel as much as possible and grow my brand.
